Talent - O- Rama

MFC 50th Anniversary Edition

Join us for a special event in celebration of our 50th anniversary. We are bringing back the Talent-O-Rama this fall for our kids and teens.

This event will allow any participant ages 4-18 to join in this event for free with different age divisions and categories.

 

Age divisions will be 4 to 7, 8 to 11, 12-14, 15-18 and participants can choose to participate in:
- Vocal Performance (solos or groups)
- Dance (solos or groups)
- Instrumental (solos or groups)
- Art (ages 8 to 18)(individual)
- Coloring (ages 4 to 7)
- Creative Writing (individual)
- Kitchen-Sink (karate, juggling, gymnastics, anything you consider a talent that doesn't fall in categories above) (individual or group)

 

Participants can choose to participate in multiple categories but only one entry per category. If in a group, the group will participate in the age division of the oldest member in group.

 

Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each age division and category.

**Once registered, in September, a form for each category will be sent to you that must be completed on day of performance or when submitting your physical entry piece. 

All entry pieces that are NON-PERFORMING will be judged during the day on 10/15 and displayed in the gym during the performing acts. Winners will be announced following performing acts. 

Vocal Performance (solos or groups)

1. Music must be accompaniment ONLY. Background vocals are permitted. 

2. Music must be emailed to us in advanced in mp4 format OR provided on a USB drive. No CDs or youtube links.

3. Vocal Performance must be longer than 2 minutes but shorter than 4 minutes. 

4. Contestants must be available to perform LIVE on Saturday October 15th in the evening. (Tentatively from 6pm to 9pm)

5. Contestants must be available to rehearse during the day on Saturday October 15th at a time TBD.

Judging Explanation:

The same evaluation sheet will be used for contestants. Judges will score the contestant in the following factors:

- Tone

- Diction

- Technique

- Level of Difficulty

- Stage Presence & Attire

- Balance (groups only)

Judges will score the following in the above factors:

Superior - 5

Excellent - 4

Good - 3

Fair - 2

Poor - 1

Judges will use the evaluation sheet as a guide but are able to determine winners on mutual agreement. 

 

 Dance (solos or groups)

- Instrumental (solos or groups)

1. Contestants must be available to perform LIVE on Saturday October 15th in the evening. (Tentatively from 6pm to 9pm)

2. Contestants must be available to rehearse during the day on Saturday October 15th at a time TBD.

3. Instrumental Performance must be longer than 2 minutes but shorter than 4 minutes. 

Judging Explanation:

The same evaluation sheet will be used for contestants. Judges will score the contestant in the following factors:

- Tone

- Intonation

- Technique

- Level of Difficulty

- Stage Presence & Attire

- Balance (groups only)

Judges will score the following in the above factors:

Superior - 5

Judges will use the evaluation sheet as a guide but are able to determine winners on mutual agreement. 

- Art (ages 8 to 18)(individual)

1. Contestant must provide an original work and idea. Assistance may be received only in the form of advice or instruction. A reproduction of existing art will not be accepted. No crafts, kids, models, or work from patterns.

2. Contestant must drop off entry to the MFC on Friday October 14th from 6pm to 9pm.

3. Art should represent something relative to the local community (within 50 miles of the MFC)

4. Art can be made out of any materials

5. Any art that is distasteful to the standards and beliefs of the MFC will be disqualified. No entry shall include foul language, sexuality, weapons, etc. 

Judging Explanation:

The same evaluation sheet will be used for contestants. Judges will score the contestant in the following factors:

- Effectiveness of composition (does it work well together, look balanced, etc.)

- Creativity (imagination/individuality)

- Craftmanship/Technique (attention to detail, proficiency)

Judges will score the following in the above factors:

Superior - 5

Excellent - 4

Good - 3

Fair - 2

Poor - 1

Judges will use the evaluation sheet as a guide but are able to determine winners on mutual agreement. 

 

- Photography (ages 8 to 18)(individual)

1. Contestant must provide an original work and idea. Assistance may be received only in the form of advice or instruction. A reproduction of existing art will not be accepted. 

2. Entry must be minimum 8x10. Contestant may choose type of processing (own or commercial)

3. Framed and/or matted framed pieces must be equipped with wire-hanging hardware

4. Contestant must drop off entry to the MFC on Friday October 14th from 6pm to 9pm.

5. Photography should represent something relative to the local community (within 50 miles of the MFC)

6. Contestant must have written permission for any individuals that are included in the final submission piece.

7. Any photography that is distasteful to the standards and beliefs of the MFC will be disqualified. No entry shall include foul language, sexuality, weapons, etc.

- Coloring (ages 4 to 7)

1. Contestant must color on own. 

2. Contestant must drop off entry to the MFC on Friday October 14th from 6pm to 9pm.

3. Contestants may use any combination of colored pencils, crayons, or paint for entry.

4. A document of PDF coloring sheets to choose (1) sheet from will be sent to contestant in September and should be printed on own on heavy grade 8 1/2" x 11" white computer paper.

- Creativity (imagination/individuality)

- Creative Writing (individual)

1. Contestant must provide an original, unpublished work. Assistance may be received only in the form of advice.

2. The writing must have a community service or local community history theme (within 50 miles of MFC)

3. Contestant must drop off entry to the MFC on Friday October 14th from 6pm to 9pm.

4. Final Submission piece must be typewritten, double-spaced on one side of the paper that is 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Font should be 12 pt Arial. 

5. Final Submission piece should be submited in a clear-face protective cover. 

6. Ages 7 & Under should have less than or equal to 300 words

7. Ages 8 to 11 should have less than or equal to 500 words

8. Ages 12 to 18 should have less than or equal to 1000 words.

6. Any creative writing that is distasteful to the standards and beliefs of the MFC will be disqualified. No entry shall include foul language, sexuality, weapons, etc. 

Judging Explanation:

The same evaluation sheet will be used for contestants. Judges will score the contestant in the following factors:

- Story has a beginning, middle, and an ending

- Written in prescribed paragraph format (2-4) sentences

- Uses Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? to carry the story

- Grammar: spelling, sentence structure, end punctuation

- Creativity

- Theme (ages 12 to 18)

Judges will score the following in the above factors:

Superior - 5

Excellent - 4

Good - 3

Fair - 2

Poor - 1

Judges will use the evaluation sheet as a guide but are able to determine winners on mutual agreement. 

- Kitchen-Sink

(karate, juggling, gymnastics, anything you consider a talent that doesn't fall in categories above) (individual or group)

1. Once submitted in the registration, the MFC will determine if your talent is a performance or non-performance talent.

Performing talents:

1. Music must be emailed to us in advanced in mp4 format OR provided on a USB drive. No CDs or youtube links.

2. Contestants must be available to perform LIVE on Saturday October 15th in the evening. (Tentatively from 6pm to 9pm)

3. Performance must be longer than 2 minutes but shorter than 4 minutes.

5. Other parameters may be set as necessary.

Non-Performing talents:

1. Contestant provide original work

2. Contestant must drop off entry to the MFC on Friday October 14th from 6pm to 9pm.

Judging Explanation:

- Creativity of talent

- Appearance (performing attire/presence or non-performing display/clearness)

- Technique

- Difficulty for age

Judges will score the following in the above factors:
